Here are some frequently asked questions about the adventure.
Q: “I’m not sure if I have the experience needed. I am a bit of a novice on the dirt, but have ridden road for many years. What can I do to make sure that I am able to do it?”
A: The main thing I can suggest is to do a few big trailrides in the lead up to September next year. There is going to be a lot of time riding and the best way to prepare, so that you have a wonderful time, is to get the body ready – don’t want to put it into shock on day one. =)
It certainly wouldn’t hurt to get some coaching too. (Doesn’t have to be with me.) You don’t know what you don’t know, and the smallest changes in the way you ride can be big energy savers!
Q: “I don’t know if I will be good enough to ride for 6 days, and I have seen photo’s and some of the tracks look tough…?”
A: We always knew that this would be an issue with trying to get 13 girls who were willing and able to come to the Cape. However, confidence is key! I have spoken with Caitlyn (her Dad runs the tour and she has done the trip 4 times) and Tanya Hearn (she has made the journey once) and they both think that being WILLING is more important than being ABLE!
The lead rider, sweep rider, myself, Caitlyn and Ellyse will jump on and ride your bike if you need a hand through difficult sections, and there are opportunities to jump onto road to cut out longer bits, if need be. At the end of the day, if you are someone who WANTS to do this. We will get you there.
