Cairns Fox Womens Offroad Camp Out 10 Presented by MXstore 2019
It’s time for some Mini Camp Outs
I try to get everywhere. In 2019 I’ve used the usual locations, closish to capital cities where there are more people, and therefore more women, and therefore more women who ride bikes. But this year I also headed back to Cairns, got to WA for the first time, and am planning on Murray Bridge in SA next weekend. When I head to places where there just isn’t the population, I’ve decided that I need to set the ‘Sold Out’ bar a little lower. Jemma Wilson Events is a business and I need to make money from my events but I don’t ever want to be a greedy guts so it’s time for some mini’s.
The latest Camp Out was held 80kms north of the beautiful Cairns in the even more beautiful Mossman Gorge. We used an amazing private property that was a mix of dense jungle and cane farm and included a crystal clear creek with no crocodiles. I was hoping to grow the North Qld Camp Out from last year but we actually ended up with less entries; we had ten wonderful women for the weekend – five returnees and five newbies. And it got me to thinking that ten is enough.
Ten is not enough to make Jemma Wilson Events a successful business endeavour but it was a really fun weekend and I was able to bring the Camp Outs to somewhere that would not otherwise get a similar event. I want more people to ride, especially ladies, and it shouldn’t just be the ladies who live near other ladies who ride that should get the opportunity to experience some coaching and the amazing atmosphere of the Camp Outs. So, moving forward, Fox, MXstore and I are committed to bringing a Mini Event to one regional place each year.
My return customer rate is something that I am very proud of. The five returnees from the 2018 North Qld Camp Out in Tully were all really pleased that they came back. Hearing the same stuff again 12 months later can be a lot like hearing it all for the first time. We had a mix of riders, as we always do, from total newbies to really confident gals and some extremely keen ladies (yes Carly, I am talking about you and your note taking) and some returnees who clearly got some practice in since Tully. Well done ladies.
The Mini’s means ladies may only get one chance to come to a Camp Out (but then they will be so keen for another one, they will road trip with their new gal pals), only one coach (just me) and less of an opportunity to make new friends, because there are half the ladies there, but it also means that those 10-15 girls really get to know one another.
Cairns this time round was a blast and thanks so much to the ladies who attended. You are all legends. And thanks to Fox, MXstore, Barkbuster, Unifilter, Force Accessories, Motorex, Husqvarna and Young Henrys. These guys and girls help me get around the country and provide access to the Camp Out to the most women I can.
So, if you live somewhere where you think you could rustle up 10-15 ladies for a weekend of coaching, no cooking and a super fun and supportive all lady environment, tell them to contact me, and I’ll see what I can do about getting a Fox Camp Out Mini to them in 2020.
